Bells to Aireys Inlet

This magic stretch of coast from Torquay to Lorne has to be our favourite part of Victoria. Yep! we are back down in the southern parts of Australia over the summer months mostly doing photo jobs through inland Vic, but we have taken a week out to enjoy all the point-breaks, reefs, headlands, bays and beaches of the “Surf Coast” and this place has them all with plenty of quality. You can see why a massive surf industry started here all those years ago and it’s still super strong today.

We were lucky enough to stay in a house just under the watchful eye of the Split Point Lighthouse in Aireys Inlet. This is at the start of “The Great Ocean Road” a world famous drive that takes you along some spectacular coastal cliffs with views out to the wild southern ocean. We didn’t stray too far from our home base this time. The surf was super fun from Bells to Bird rock stretch and the landscape setups around Aireys were interesting enough to save us too much driving time.

The surf coast is better suited to the winter months, but we jagged some great head high waves in 20 degree water… and way down the bottom of OZ we will take that any day.

Our next post will be Sherrin’s look into what most don’t get to see or notice.
