I love Green Juice!!

Who wouldn’t when they act like rocket fuel for the body.

I can seriously say that drinking green juices has improved my health, energy levels, immune function and clarity of thought in a massive way! AND as you’ll see today they are so easy to incorporate into your daily routine.

Here are 5 reasons why you should get your green juice on:

  1. To load you up with immune boosting antioxidants
  2. To balance the PH level of your blood – the large majority of the modern day diet and lifestyle creates excessive amounts of acid within the body, which has been proven to be a short cut to major disease.
  3. Load up with chlorophyl – chlorophyl is great for the blood, the respiratory system and also has a sneaky little benefit of helping out your B.O and bad breath – ask my sisters, I don’t stink any more! (as much anyway, haha)
  4. Turn on your digestion – the turmeric, ginger and lemon are all really good for your gut. It’s now commonly known that 85% of immunity comes from the gut, so taking daily action to nurture your gut is wise.
  5. Juices are in your blood stream within 20 minutes, so it is literally like getting a nutrient injection – It would take a whole day to eat the same amount of vegetables that you put in a big juice!
  6. (I know I said 5 but this one is too good to miss) Super re-charging and hydrating when you get out of the surf!

What to be aware of:

Fibre is an imperative part of wellbeing, and with juices you strip the fibre out of the vegetables. This is good because the nutrients are instantly available, but this is also why I don’t count juices as a meal – more of a supplement (unless you’re on a specific cleanse or program).

Cold Pressed or Traditional juicer?

Cold pressed juicers are a clear win over the traditional centrifugal juicers. They create more juice and less pulp, and because they are cold-pressed more nutrients are intact within the juice. Whereas with centrifugal juicers the friction from the grating action causes heat, which can compromise the nutrient quality of the juice.

The good news is that it was only a few years ago when it was hard to get a cold pressed juicer under 700 bucks. But these days they are everywhere and well priced – you can even find good ones for under $300.

Here’s the video, enjoy! Below I have written the ingredients that I use in my favourite juice.

Ingredients – for one person

  • 2 big leaves of kale
  • 2 big leaves of silver beet
  • 1 whopping lebanese cucumber
  • 3 large sticks of celery or 5 medium sticks
  • 1 green apple
  • 1/4 lemon
  • 1 thumb-size nugget of ginger
  • 1/2 thumb-size nugget of fresh turmeric
  • Old broccoli stalks if you have them

Method

Pretty self-explanatory isn’t it??!!

Press on and put it in!

The only thing to be aware of is that it helps to save some apple or a piece of lemon to put in after the leafy greens to help them through, so you can make sure you get the maximum goodness out of them. This is also why I run half a glass of water through the juicer at the end – plus it also makes the juice last longer!
