I’m an avid documentary watcher, but I saw things off the reefs of Lady Elliot that I’ve never seen on a nature show. It’s got to be one of the world’s best places for aquatic wildlife encounters in the world, actually many well travelled marine biologist and ocean documenters have called it unsurpassed for marine life.
Fortunately the island has been so well managed. For starters its right in the middle of a “Green Zone” which has 100% protection, no fishing, no taking and minimal disturbance. The resort generates its own power, desalinates its own water, composts all the food scraps and uses a minimal amount of plastics. Its a true “Eco Resort” which is constantly evolving to minimise its impact on the environment.
The island is not just a resort for tourists, its more set up like a “education holiday” complete with island tours. Turtle, Dolphin, Shark and Manta Ray talks are happening every few hours, they even have an island survival tour and night walks. If you’re not snorkelling around the reefs you are hanging with some of the coolest marine biologist girls going around!! All of them super passionate and willing to share their time and knowledge with all the guests. It was a holiday tailor made for our family and we all can’t wait to return.
Below are our second series of images from the island, we can’t wait to share our short video from the island really soon and coming up later this week we will be releasing our favourite Turtle image!! stay tuned.
