Port Fairy

We skipped back over the border into Victoria this past week and set up in the cute little town of Port Fairy. A seaside village that has a stunning protected beach with aqua waters that more resembled northern NSW or QLD. It’s called “Easts Beach” as it faces east and provides that sunrise you see in today’s main shot. The second shot, also of East beach at midday and shows the aqua paradise that gives a stark difference to the wild southern ocean that lies just around the bend.

On the other side the swells and heavy green water come straight off Antarctica, the water is cold even in the middle of summer and you share the waves with Seals!! I got to surf a fun right-hander with the locals not far from the town center. An easy rock-jump and paddle through some heavy kelp gets you into a neat line-up, once out there I made a mental note that a re-wax on the board might be necessary as the warm water wax from the north coast went as hard the town’s water supply which is some harsh bore water. The locals like to call it artesian, which sounds lovely, but it ain’t.

Water quality aside we loved the town and the people and would have happily stayed here for another few weeks.
