How bad is it when you have an old injury, then you push yourself too hard and it flares up and you’re back to square one. Pain and inflammation is your body’s way of saying “Leave me alone!” So if you’ve got a dodgy ankle, don’t go for a run. Just stay off it while the healing process takes place. Don’t worry, there’s so much you can do to fast forward that healing process get yourself back in action!
Pineapple contains a proteolytic enzyme called bromelain. Basically acts like Pac Man at gobbling up an inflammation. Eat it away from other foods and you can also buy it in tablet form if you need the heavy duty stuff.
Other super anti-inflammatory foods include: turmeric, ginger, garlic, onions, vegie juice. Organic green tea is really beneficial too. Anything green is super anti-inflammatory and alkalising. So think broccoli, green beans, spirulina, barley grass, celery, pears, etc. Not Coopers Green…
I swear by Traumeel tablets. It’s a mix of different homeopathic remedies and for acute throbbing pain you can take one an hour. Also Metagenics Inflavonoid Intensive Care is gold. Increase your fish oil to 6 capsules twice a day or 1 tsp of BioCeuticals Omega Sure twice a day.
RUB IT IN
Rub on some trusty Tiger Balm, Zen liniment or arnica cream and do it regularly. Also jump in a bath and add 1 cup of Epsom salts to loosen your muscles.
There are so many modalities than can give you relief from your injury. Remedial massage, bowen, acupuncture, physiotherapy, reiki, kinesiology, osteopathy, chiropractic. I sound like a health insurance ad! Pop into the shop if you need any phone numbers of the good ones or if you can recommend anyone.
DON’T BE A HERO
Man up and do something about the pain instead of just living with it. Chronic inflammation makes your system more acidic and leaves you more susceptible to all sorts of serious things like autoimmune conditions and even cancer. Everyone deserves to live pain free so go do something about it and get back in the waves!
